YOUR TEACHER
My name is Matthew and I was born in South Wales.
I originally trained as a ballet dancer, and then performed in a number of west end musicals, before teaching performing arts to post-16 students in various schools in and around London.
In 2013 I commenced training as a Pilates teacher, and in 2015 founded The Pilates Education; a Pilates studio in South East London, which I ran with my wife, Jayne.

Our work there involved managing a multi site studio, and supporting a team of 6 teachers from various training backgrounds.

The COVID pandemic lead to Jayne and I relocating to the Forest of Dean, where we now live with our sons, Caleb and Jesse.
Alongside traditional mat work, I am comprehensively qualified and insured to teach repertoire up to an advanced level on all pieces of original Pilates apparatus.
My initial training with BASI Pilates was contemporary in style, and I later developed an interest in a classical approach, which I first encountered through a post-training apprenticeship with Amit Younger.
I am pre and postnatally trained, so can work with women in any stage of their pregnancy journey.

I love supporting and mentoring fellow Pilates teachers, as well as those in training to become teachers, while continuing to receive ongoing training in my own development.
THE TEAM
We are a husband and wife team, in which Matthew is the Pilates teacher, and we work together on all aspects relating to the studio’s day to day running.

Jayne first encountered Pilates when recovering from a back operation in 2011, and Matthew first experienced the Method aged 15 whilst training as a dancer.
We met in 2012 on a wellbeing retreat called Azulfit in Fuerteventura. It was after this that Matthew embarked on his Pilates training, and Jayne retrained as a nutritional therapist after 15 years of working in corporate finance in The City.
Together we successfully ran a vibrant Pilates studio for 5 years in South London, and we truly love being able to offer people the wonderful benefits of Pilates.

We live in Aylburton Common - in the Forest of Dean - where we home educate our 2 sons, Caleb and Jesse, like to cook from scratch and grow our own veg.
